Long story short, I found my old laptop and I was wondering if there was any way of fixing it myself without having to fork over about $200 for a repair. If you know what the problem is, or have a solution to fix it, write a comment. I’ll try my best to read/respond to them all.

Lately I have to click twice on an application in order for it to run.
And sometimes when I open a folder, it won’t open and an error message will pop out. After I ignore the error message and try to open for the 2nd time again, the folder can now be open. What is the possibility that this is due to corrupt registry?

now my internet explorer does’nt work i keep getting a notice that says crash detection i really think i should just purchase a complete pc scan and repair kit .also will reinstalling windows delete everything i’ve installed etc.

I seem to have contracted a virus that is keeping me from booting in Windows 7. As far as I can tell it altered the registry or startup procedures so that windows gets stuck on a black screen with a text cursor. I can still boot from my Fedora Linux disc but I need to get Windows 7 working again. Is there any way to do this from Linux or pre-OS startup? Preferably without having to use a Windows Boot Disc

That’s not going to work. You have to get the virus off the disk before anything else, then do a repair install of Windows to get it working again.
